When Skate Brands Collide - 2013

on Saturday, 31 August 2013.

Here's a math problem for you... Two skate brands are on the same track heading towards each other at high speed. If one brand is traveling at 105mph and the other is traveling at 115mph how fucking awesome will their product line be when they collide?

Questions such as this have plagued scholars for decades and although we don't have the answer, our belief is you can always look to the past to predict the future. So join us as we journey back in time for answers and review some of the best skate brand collaborations to date.

2013 Collaborations

  • Fourstar x Glassy Sunhaters: Leonard Leopard print (Spring 2013)

Leonard meets Leopard with this fun, sassy look just in time for Summer. You'll be the cat's meow with these on your nose! I'm somewhat uninspired by the name of this line... My submission you ask? #GlassyFourEyes
  • Vans x Mike Hill (Spring 2013)

As co-founder and creative force behind much of the inspiration that is Alien Workshop, Mike Hill has blessed us with a line in mint green, guaranteed to keep you fresh all year round!
  • HUF x Snoop Dogg: 420 (Spring 2013)

I must say I love the throwback vibe of Snoop's Doggy Style Era... I was bumpin' that cassette in 2nd grade (thanks Mom!) I am, however, surprised by the lack of HUF's signature green in a 420 collection.
  • HUF x Diamond (Spring / Summer 2013)

Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn! Diamond and HUF are too heavy hitters of skate fashion that you really wouldn't expect anything less from. You gotta love that Tiffany Blue... I wonder how this collection would look in HUF Green???
  • Lakai x Diamond: Telford Echelon (Summer 2013)

Remember what I told you back in 2010 about those Nike SB 94's? The same rule applies here. Lakai x Diamond used "premium" materials for this creation, hence the name Echelon (as in Upper). Wear these out when you're trying to get laid... Or even while you're getting laid for that matter.
  • Lakai x Baker: Riley Hawk Griffin (Summer 2013)

This is another one of those situations where a video is worth a trillion words.
  • HUF x Stussy: Font Red (Summer 2013)

Keeping their buying cycles strong, HUF x Stussy held a re-re-release of their notorious collaborative tee, this time in red.
  • Cliche x Fourstar (Summer 2013)

This rendezvous of Cliché Skateboards x Fourstar is magnifique! If they had one more shared team rider this would have made for a ménage à trois épique!
  • DGK x G Shock x Stevie Williams: Limited Edition (Summer 2013)

The scientists of DGK have been hard at work to give you this 2nd limited edition Stevie Williams G-Shock watch... IT'S STILL DGK ALL DAY BITCH!
  • HUF x IVI (Summer 2013)

Keith Hufnagel's signature IVI "Standard" model in two colorways... They only made 100 of each, why even sell them Keith? I lose my sunglasses all the time, I'd just keep them all as back ups.
  • Nike SB x Supreme: Tennis Classic (Summer 2013)

As the name would indicate, this model was designed to meet the dress code requirements of your local Country Club; allowing you to mingle seemlessly among the cougar divorcee's after a long day of skating. They used to call it The Wimbledon, a much better name if you ask me.
  • Vans x Odd Future: Old Skool (Summer 2013)

Probably the best ad campaign of the decade. They come in other colors, I just think this is the best photo. The back's are pretty dope too.
  • HUF x Haze (Fall 2013)

No you're computer is not broken, HUF x Haze are back at it with this new black and white pattern that I am convinced is a Magic Eye.
  • Vans x Alien Workshop (Summer 2013)

This is the SECOND release of 2013 put out by Vans x AWS, but now they've doubled down with more than twice as much product. The highlight here is the custom logo designed by Mike Hill himself!
  • Fucking Awesome x Vans: Authentic Collection (Summer 2013)

For those of you unaware, Jason Dill owns Fucking Awesome. In Fall 2012 he joined Vans Syndicate and then back in May, scrawled a message of his departure from AWS on a bathroom wall somewhere. Following these two events has come the release of this Fucking Awesome Vans shoe (both an adjective and noun in this case.) There is Fucking Awesome print all over these Fucking Awesome shoes and if Fucking Awesome continues to work with Vans (as we can imagine they will) we expect the rest of this collaborative effort to be Fucking Awesome. Unfortunately these Fucking Awesome shoes are only available at Supreme, which is not so Fucking Awesome to those of you reading in Wisconsin.

Thanks to Reddit user "cheersdom" for this contribution, Fucking Awesome!
  • The Hundreds x Hook Ups (Holiday 2013)

Hook Ups was the risqué brand of my youth with enough sexually charged product to make any 6th grader go blind. Many consider this collaboration to be well overdue. Bunch of cock teases if you ask me!
